Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Speaking About Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Tearing the Country Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she believes it's no longer appropriate to speak out against the Trump presidency, concerned it could worsen polarizing arguments and deepen rifts within the United States.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Says the Actress
During a discussion, the Oscar winner shared, “During the first Trump administration, I believed I was moving hastily in a panicked state. But experience has shown, election after election, public figures fail to influence whatsoever on electoral choices.”
The actor went on, “Why continue? I’m just expressing personal views on a matter that’s going to heighten conflict that’s ripping the nation apart.”
Political Evolution
Jennifer Lawrence has spoken candidly about voting for both conservative and liberal contenders over the years. Brought up by conservative Republicans in her home state, she cast her ballot for the Republican nominee in 2008 then moving to the Democrats and stating she recognized during the Obama era that backing conservatives was voting against her personal freedoms as a woman.
Earlier Remarks
Several years ago, she stated that a Trump victory would be “a disaster” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she lent her support to Kamala Harris, “since I think she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will do whatever she can to defend reproductive rights.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Lawrence was joined by many in the entertainment industry in her opposition to Trump as a presidential contender, but the lack of leverage celebrities have over the public choices was emphasized by Trump’s victory.
“The second term seems distinct,” said Lawrence regarding Trump’s presidency. “Because he made his plans clear. We knew what he did for the previous administration. He was very clear. And that’s what we chose.”
New Release
Jennifer Lawrence is highlighting Die, My Love, the filmmaker’s drama in which she plays a young mom who struggles with her psychological well-being in the countryside. Speaking at a media event for the project in the film festival, she addressed the situation in the Middle East: “I feel fear. It’s devastating. What’s happening is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”
Wider Issues
She continued by saying that she was saddened by “the disrespect in the conversations of the political landscape right now and how that is going to be accepted to the younger generation right now. It’s going to be normal to them that politicians lie.”
Lawrence sought to redirect outrage about the issue to leaders rather than actors and artists. “Concentrate on who is responsible,” she remarked, which was interpreted as a allusion to the then-recent pledge signed by thousands of Hollywood professionals to refuse engagement with Israeli film institutions.
Relatable Experiences
The actor, who won an Oscar at a young age for her role in her breakout movie, is receiving praise for her performance in the new film. Even though Ramsay has disputed the narrative being understood as one of postpartum depression and mental illness, the actress revealed that she identified with elements of her character’s journey after the arrival of her new baby, soon after filming concluded.
“It was fear regarding my baby,” she said, “imagining every worst-case scenario, and then second-guessing everything that I was trying. I was receiving counseling, but I began using a drug called the prescription and I used it for a short period and it was effective.”
Career Moments
The actor also spoke of the liberating necessity of completing nude scenes in the film while she was expecting and unable to exercise.
“It feels nice,” she said, of being forced to set aside self-consciousness. “Truly, I do have moments where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
